DIN eKYC

File the annual DIR-3 KYC for directors to keep their Director Identification Number active.

What's covered

  • DIR-3 KYC is the annual know-your-customer filing that every person holding a Director Identification Number must complete with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, under Rule 12A of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules 2014. It applies to all DIN holders — including those who have been disqualified and those not currently on any board — so simply holding an active DIN creates the obligation, whether or not the DIN is being used.
  • There are two routes. The DIR-3 KYC eForm is used the first time a director files KYC, and whenever any of the director's details (such as mobile number, email or address) have changed since the last filing. The DIR-3 KYC Web service is a lighter annual re-confirmation, used when nothing has changed and the director only needs to verify the existing details through an OTP.
  • The filing falls due by 30 September of the financial year following the one in which the DIN was allotted, and annually thereafter. Missing the deadline deactivates the DIN with the status 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC', after which the director cannot sign any MCA filing until it is reactivated. A fee of ₹5,000 applies to reactivate a deactivated DIN; the MCA has issued financial-year-specific extensions in the past, so the current cycle's exact due date and fee should be confirmed before filing.
  • We track each director's KYC due date, decide whether the eForm or the Web route applies, arrange the professional certification the eForm requires, and file ahead of 30 September so the DIN stays active and no MCA filing is blocked.

How we work

  1. 01

Log in and open the KYC service

Log in to the MCA portal and open DIN Related Filings, then select DIR-3 KYC. Choose the eForm where it is a first-time filing or any detail has changed, or the Web service where the details are unchanged and only annual re-confirmation is needed.

  2. 02

Verify contact details by OTP and complete identity details

Verify the director's mobile number and email through the one-time passwords sent to each, then complete the identity details — name, father's name, nationality, date of birth, PAN and address — exactly as they appear in the supporting documents.

  3. 03

    Attach documents, certify and submit

Attach the address and identity proofs, affix the director's Digital Signature Certificate, and have the eForm certified by a practising chartered accountant, company secretary or cost accountant. On submission a Service Request Number is generated and the KYC is recorded against the DIN.

Documents required

  • Permanent address proof and present address proof of the director
  • Aadhaar of the director
  • Passport, where the director holds one (mandatory for foreign nationals)
  • Director's Digital Signature Certificate registered against the DIN
  • Digital Signature Certificate, membership number and Certificate of Practice of the certifying professional
  • Active personal mobile number and email of the director for OTP verification

Applicable laws & forms

  • Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules 2014 — Rule 12A, which requires every DIN holder to file DIR-3 KYC annually by 30 September
  • Companies Act 2013 — Section 153 (application for a Director Identification Number) and Section 154 (allotment of the DIN)
  • MCA circulars notifying the financial-year-specific due dates and any extensions, which should be checked for the current cycle before filing
